New Hamburg downs Wellesley in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

David Jennings gave the New Hamburg Firebirds a 5-4 (OT) victory over the Wellesley Applejacks when he scored 32 seconds into the extra period.

Jennings had two goals to lead New Hamburg to victory.

The Firebirds racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. New Hamburg surpassed its season average of 21.0 penalty minutes per game. The Firebirds' offense rang up 44 shots on Wellesley's net.

New Hamburg also got points from Brodie Muckler, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for New Hamburg included Walker Davison and Carter Tracey, who scored one goal each. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Tyler Kleine, Brandon Quan, and Chris Eckert, who each chipped in one and Tyler Randerson and Jerry Ennett, who contributed three each.

The Applejacks forced New Hamburg goalie Ryan Purcell to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Wellesley was helped by Cal Jefferies, who registered two goals and one assist. Jefferies scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 5:15 into the first period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. A roughing after whistle penalty on Garrett Pollock had put the Applejacks on the power play. Sean McEwan assisted on the tally. Jefferies' next tally on the power play made the score 4-4 with 15:40 left in the third period. Wellesley earned a power play opportunity when Davison was put in the box for roughing after whistle. McEwan picked up the assist. Wellesley additionally got points from Nicholas Breault, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Brenden Goran also scored for Wellesley. Other players who recorded assists for Wellesley were David Elford and Garrett Schultz, who each chipped in one.

Purcell recorded 28 saves for the Firebirds. New Hamburg registered one goal on three power play opportunities. For the Firebirds, Davison was ejected from the game. Ryan Porter made 39 saves for the Applejacks on 44 shots. Wellesley totaled 24 minutes in penalty time with two minors and two majors and went 2-for-6 on the power play. Team's Spencer Brick and Justin Lebold were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
