Ayr blows out Wellesley, 7-3

The Wellesley Applejacks had trouble finding ways to stop the Ayr Centennials, which beat Applejacks, 7-3.

Felix Lantaigne was all over the ice for Ayr, as he registered two goals in the win. Lantaigne scored at 3:16 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr and again while short handed 16:33 into the second to make the score 6-2 Ayr.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:44 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Centennials' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 11 minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. Ayr had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Centennials forced Wellesley's goaltenders to work all game long, firing 41 shots and forcing 34 saves. Ryan Porter made 20 stops and Noah Leis made 14. Ayr's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Ayr also got points from Mitch Klie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Tyler Harrison, who also had one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Cash Seraphim, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Ayr also had goals scored by Ben Roelofson and Connor MacLean, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Coleton Madge, Jackson White, Austin Kovrig, Carver Ormiston, and Quinn Diamond, who each chipped in one and Mackenzie Kemp and Jake Whibbs, who contributed two each.

The Applejacks were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. Wellesley surpassed its season average of 26.0 penalty minutes per game. The Centennials were unable to stop the Applejacks from sending pucks towards the net, and Wellesley eventually piled up 37 shots on goal. The Applejacks were held back by their power play unit, which tallied two goals on 12 chances.

Hayden Padalino rejected 34 shots on goal for Ayr. The Centennials registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. Ayr ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Diamond was ejected from the game. For Wellesley, Greg Huber was ejected from the game.
