Wellesley outlasts Woodstock, 4-2

The Wellesley Applejacks gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Woodstock Navy Vets.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Sean McEwan's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Wellesley got the win with help from a great game by McEwan, who had two goals and one assist. McEwan scored the first of his two goals at 15:38 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wellesley. David Elford provided the assist. McEwan's next tally made the score 3-2 Wellesley with 7:20 left in the third period. The Applejacks played down a man on Justin Lebold's kneeing. Cal Jefferies picked up the assist.

Wellesley kept Woodstock's goalie busy throughout the game, and North Davies made 30 saves on 34 shots.

Wellesley also got points from Elford, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Wellesley also got a goal from Spencer Brick as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Mark Lebold, who had one and Nathan Schlupp, who had two.

The Navy Vets put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Applejacks to score on any of their three power plays.

Woodstock was helped by Max Racicot, who registered one goal. Racicot scored 15:14 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Chris Jensen provided the assist. Gray Sinden also scored for Woodstock. Other players who recorded assists for Woodstock were Jack Taylor, Austin Whetham, and Jacob Brown, who contributed one each.

Ryan Porter made 20 saves for Wellesley on 22 shots. The Applejacks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Navy Vets incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
