Paris downs Ayr, 5-2

Brant Sports Complex    Sat, Oct 10, 2015

Cole Corriveau registered one point to lead the Paris Mounties to a 5-2 victory over the Ayr Centennials.

In a losing effort, Ayr was led by Tyler Harrison, who grabbed two goals. Harrison scored the first of his two goals at 7:36 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Paris. Harrison's next tally made the score 3-2 Paris with 12:57 left in the third period. Jordan Pettitt picked up the assist.

Paris put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Centennials to score on any of their four power plays. The Mounties kept Ayr's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Hergott made 33 saves on 38 shots.

Paris also got points from Brady Wheelans, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Tyler Arsenault, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Paris included Keegan Alvestad and Mikael Ruffini, who scored one goal each. More assists for Paris came via Steven Goeree and Austin Sine, who each chipped in one.

The Centennials' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 21.0 minutes per game Ayr had been spending in the box. The Centennials were held below their usual level of production. Ayr puts an average of 5.8 pucks into the net per game. Paris was unable to stop the Centennials from sending pucks towards the net, and Ayr eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Jake Whibbs, who had one.

Zach Shomphe made 35 saves for the Mounties on 37 shots. Paris totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Mounties, Joshua Schafer was ejected from the game. The Centennials ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Sean Mitchell was ejected from the game.
