Delhi outlasts Ayr, 3-2

The Delhi Travellers and the Ayr Centennials were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Delhi made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Nevin Guenther at 10:46 of the third period.

Rhett Roney had two goals to lead the Travellers to victory. Roney scored at 15:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 6:32 into the second to make the score 2-1 Delhi.

Delhi managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Travellers finished below its season average of 12.0 penalty minutes per game.

More assists for Delhi came via Colin Vandaele, Nathan Stackhouse, and Kelsey Van Ymeren, who each chipped in one.

Ayr put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Delhi to score on any of its five power plays. The Centennials did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Ayr puts an average of 7.0 pucks into the net per game. The Centennials forced the Travellers goalie Mike Harrison to work between the pipes, taking 47 shots.

Ayr was helped by Quinn Diamond, who racked up one goal. Diamond scored 4:49 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Ayr. Jackson White assisted on the tally. Austin Kovrig also scored for Ayr. Other players who recorded assists for Ayr were Mackenzie Kemp and Felix Lantaigne, who contributed one each.

Harrison rejected 45 shots on goal for Delhi. Hayden Padalino recorded 20 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
