Ayr downs Woodstock in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Ayr Centennials' Mitch Klie scored 40 seconds into overtime to beat the Woodstock Navy Vets, 5-4 (OT).

Ayr overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Centennials trailed 3-1 after a goal by Woodstock's Chris Nauts at 6:42 in the second period. Ayr tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Connor MacLean at 19:49 in the third period.

The Centennials got the win on the strength of a great game by MacLean, who had one goal and two assists.

Ayr was held below its usual level of production. The Centennials average 8.3 goals per game. Ayr's offense rang up 45 shots on the Navy Vets' net.

Ayr also got points from Riley Clipper, who also registered one goal and one assist, Klie, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Cash Seraphim, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Quinn Diamond also scored for Ayr. More assists for Ayr came via Jake Whibbs, who had one and Carver Ormiston, who had two.

Woodstock's defense let in more goals than it usually has this year. The Navy Vets average 1.7 goal allowed per game.

Woodstock was helped by Braden Hutchison, who had one goal. Hutchison scored 18:47 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Woodstock. Chris Thompson provided the assist. Woodstock additionally got points from Nauts, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Austin Richardson, who also registered one goal and one assist. Woodstock also got a goal from Jack Taylor as well. In addition, Woodstock received assists from Max Racicot, who had two and Dan Haig, Dylan Wettlaufer, and Jake Schneider, who contributed one each.

Ryan Hergott recorded 24 saves for the Centennials. Ayr incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Jackson Swindells rejected 40 shots on goal for the Navy Vets. Woodstock incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
