Paris rides Shomphe to victory over Tavistock, 6-1

The Paris Mounties relied on the sparkling performance of Zach Shomphe in net to grab a 6-1 win against the Tavistock Braves.

Paris' penalty kill excelled, as the Mounties gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Paris was led by Ryan Stephenson, who had one goal. Stephenson scored short handed 11:04 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Paris. The Mounties played down a man on Richard Brooks's roughing.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 9:16 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts.

Paris was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and two majors for 38 minutes in penalty time. The Mounties had been averaging 22.0 minutes in penalties per game. Paris stifled Tavistock's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mounties kept the Braves' goalie busy throughout the game, and Horia Lucaciu made 32 saves on 38 shots. The defensemen of Paris were also effective in Tavistock's zone, and came away with two goals.

Paris also got points from Connor Purbrick, who also racked up one goal and one assist and Brodie Smith, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Paris also had goals scored by Keegan Alvestad, Brady Wheelans, and Tyler Arsenault, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Joshua Schafer, who had two.

The Braves' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and three majors for 63 minutes in penalty time. Tavistock surpassed its season average of 30.0 penalty minutes per game. The Braves' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on 12 Paris power plays. Tavistock's offense operated below its season average. The Braves average 3.8 goals per game. The Mounties were unable to stop Tavistock from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Tavistock was led by Braedon Hancock, who scored the team's only goal. Hancock scored 19 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Tavistock. Kieran Van Boekel provided the assist.

Shomphe recorded 33 saves for Paris. For the Mounties, Brooks and Nick Palmer were ejected from the contest. Team's Jamie Shoemaker and Maverick Petrie were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
