Woodstock beats New Hamburg 5-0 as Hutchison gets hat trick

Braden Hutchison lifted the Woodstock Navy Vets to a 5-0 victory with a hat trick against the New Hamburg Firebirds.

Hutchison's first goal came 12 seconds into the first period. He then added goals at 12:49 into the third and at 12:54 into the third.

Woodstock was boosted by Jackson Swindells, who turned in a shutout with 30 saves. Swindells managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.11 prior to the game.

The Navy Vets was steadier on the defensive front than they have been for much of this season. Woodstock allows 2.5 goals per game. New Hamburg was unable to stop the Navy Vets from sending pucks towards the net, and Woodstock eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Navy Vets outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Woodstock averages 2.8 goals per contest.

Woodstock additionally got points from Jack Taylor, who also registered one goal and one assist. Max Klunder also scored for Woodstock. More assists for Woodstock came via Jake Schneider, who had two and Chris Nauts, Michael Nutt, Dan Haig, and Jeremy Racicot, who contributed one each.

The Firebirds were often in penalty trouble, totaling six minors and one major for 37 minutes in penalty time. New Hamburg surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in six chances. New Hamburg could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Firebirds average 4.6 goals per game.

The Navy Vets ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major. Woodstock ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dylan Wettlaufer was ejected from the game. Ryan Purcell recorded 37 saves for New Hamburg. The Firebirds registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. Team's Andrew Boer and Walker Davison were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
