Wellesley downs Burford in overtime, 3-2 (OT)Burford Community Centre Sat, Sep 19, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
David Elford gave the Wellesley Applejacks a 3-2 (OT) victory over the Burford Bulldogs when he scored 1:14 into the extra period. Wellesley overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Applejacks was down 2-0 after a power play goal by Burford's Adam Harris at 12:29 in the second period. Wellesley tied things up at 2-2 on a goal by Cal Jefferies at 9:43 in the third period. The Applejacks' penalty kill excelled, as Wellesley gave up one goal despite allowing nine power plays. The Applejacks forced the Bulldogs' goaltenders to work in net, taking 42 shots and forcing 39 saves. Jack Stockdale made five stops and Riley Edwards made 34. Wellesley could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 30 minutes in penalties during the game. Wellesley also got points from Jefferies, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Wellesley also got a goal from Tyson Bender as well. In addition, Wellesley received assists from Brenden Goran and Sean McEwan, who each chipped in one. Burford excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Bulldogs kept the Applejacks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Porter made 36 saves on 38 shots. Burford was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 26 penalty minutes. Ryan Cadwell also scored for Burford. More assists for Burford came via Owen Hinch and Tyler Hinde, who contributed one each. For the Bulldogs, Luc Hartholt was ejected from the game.
