New Hamburg hangs on, beats Burford 4-2Wilmot Recreation Complex Fri, Sep 18, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
Curtis Smith scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the New Hamburg Firebirds held off the challenges of the Burford Bulldogs in a tough 4-2 win. Smith provided New Hamburg with the game-winning tally when he scored 4:19 into the first period. Walker Davison picked up the assist.The Firebirds were led by Carter Tracey, who registered one goal and one assist. Tracey scored 11:44 into the second period to make the score 3-1 New Hamburg. Colin Martin provided the assist. New Hamburg's offense rang up 42 shots on Burford's net. New Hamburg additionally got points from Jerry Ennett, who also had one goal and one assist. Tyler Randerson also scored for New Hamburg. Other players who recorded assists for New Hamburg were David Jennings, Chris Eckert, Andrew Boer, and Tyler Hoffman, who each chipped in one. The Bulldogs stifled the Firebirds' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Burford was helped by Mitch Randell, who racked up one goal. Randell scored 2:57 into the second period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. Tyler Mellish assisted on the tally. Burford also got a goal from Josiah Vanwyngaarden as well. More assists for Burford came via Ryan McLeod, Luc Hartholt, and Jesse Brooks, who contributed one each. New Hamburg's Tanner Topham stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Firebirds incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Riley Edwards made 38 saves for the Bulldogs on 41 shots. Burford incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
