Norwich's comeback falls short, Paris wins 4-3

The Paris Mounties, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Norwich Merchants and clinched a 4-3 victory.

Paris led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Mounties' Brady Wheelans scored at 8:25 in the second period to put Paris up 4-1.

Wheelans had a great game for the Mounties, netting two goals.

In the losing effort, Norwich was led by Daniel Rizzo, who racked up two goals. Rizzo scored the first of his two goals at 13:35 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Norwich. Jesse Szabo picked up the assist. Rizzo's next tally made the score 4-2 Paris with 7:51 left in the second period. Derek Slaght provided the assist.

Paris was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time.

Others who scored for Paris included Richard Brooks and Mikael Ruffini, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Paris were Keegan Alvestad, Tyler Arsenault, Brodie Smith, and Cole Corriveau, who each chipped in one.

The Merchants racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 63 minutes in penalty time. Norwich surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Merchants' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on seven Paris power plays.

Norwich additionally got points from Slaght, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Norwich received assists from Zack Morrison, who had one.

Zach Shomphe made 20 saves for the Mounties on 23 shots. Paris ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wheelans was ejected from the game. Andrew Hawkins recorded 21 saves for Norwich. The Merchants registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Dalton Alford and Riley Monture were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
