New Hamburg hangs on, beats Paris 3-1

The New Hamburg Firebirds took the lead against the Paris Mounties in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 3-1 victory.

A goal 4:33 into the first period by David Jennings proved to be the game winner, and powered New Hamburg to the victory. Anthony Osterling picked up the assist.

Paris was stymied by the Firebirds' netminder Ryan Purcell, who stopped 37 shots during the victory. Purcell certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.14 entering the contest.

New Hamburg was led by Tyler Randerson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Randerson scored 19:11 into the first period to make the score 2-0 New Hamburg. Carter Tracey provided the assist.

The Firebirds excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. New Hamburg kept the Mounties' goalie busy throughout the game, and Zach Shomphe made 38 saves on 41 shots.

New Hamburg additionally got points from Tracey, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. In addition, New Hamburg received assists from Brandon Quan, Jerry Ennett, and Walker Davison, who contributed one each.

Paris stifled the Firebirds' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Mounties' offense operated below their season average. Paris averages 5.1 goals per game. New Hamburg was unable to stop the Mounties from sending pucks towards the net, and Paris eventually piled up 38 shots on goal.

The Mounties were led by Brady Wheelans, who scored the team's only goal. Wheelans scored 2:48 into the third period to make the score 2-1 New Hamburg. Austin Sine assisted on the tally.

The Firebirds incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Paris incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
