Schomberg outlasts Stayner, 4-2

The game between the Schomberg Cougars and the Stayner Siskins was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Schomberg emerged with a 4-2 win.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and JP Crescenzi's goal in the second period proved to be the difference maker.

The Cougars' penalty kill excelled, as Schomberg gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays.

The Cougars were sparked by Joseph Mete, who tallied one goal and one assist. Mete scored 19 seconds into the third period to make the score 3-1 Schomberg.

Schomberg's offense rang up 33 shots on Stayner's net. The Cougars' penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as Schomberg finished with 24 penalty minutes.

Schomberg additionally got points from Mike Elia, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Ryley Egerton also scored for Schomberg. Other players who recorded assists for Schomberg were Derek Neilly, Declan Lampe, and Justin Formenton, who each chipped in one.

The Siskins forced the Cougars goalie Vince Michelizzi to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

Stayner was led by Kyle Paulitzki, who registered two goals. Paulitzki scored the first of his two goals at 12:11 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Stayner. Lucas Ryerse picked up the assist. Paulitzki's next tally made the score 3-2 Schomberg with 14:21 left in the third period. The Siskins had gotten the advantage when Schomberg's Tanner Smith was sent off for inciting an opponent. Ryan Hudson assisted on the tally. More assists for Stayner came via Ricky Darrell, who had one.

Vince Michelizzi made 29 saves for the Cougars on 31 shots. Schomberg registered one goal on five power play opportunities. Trevor Bloch recorded 29 saves for Stayner. The Siskins incurred 40 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
