Ritchie lifts Blenheim over Dresden, 2-1

Behind a great game by Brendan Ritchie, who had two goals, the Blenheim Blades defeated the Dresden Kings, 2-1.

Ritchie's tallies came at 19:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Blenheim and 15:45 into the second to make the score 2-1 Blenheim.

Dresden was stymied by Blenheim's netminder Klinton Kenney, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Kenney managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.91 prior to the game.

The Blades put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Kings to score on any of their three power plays. Blenheim did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Blades put an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Blenheim were George Wood, Brayden Hopkins, and Nick Delyzer, who each chipped in one.

Dresden excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in three chances. The Kings were held below their usual level of production. Dresden averages 3.8 goals per game.

The Kings were led by Carter Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 1:16 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Logan Purbrick provided the assist.

Blenheim incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dresden's Travis Moore stopped 25 shots out of the 27 that he faced. The Kings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Dresden ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Dayne Davis was ejected from the game.
