Essex uses big second period to beat Alvinston, 10-2

The Essex 73s scored seven goals in the second period to pull away from the Alvinston Flyers and clinch a 10-2 win.

Griffin McCarty had four goals and two assists to lead Essex. McCarty got on the scoresheet 5:09 into the second period. He then added goals at 7:01 into the second, at 12:09 into the second, and at 13:38 into the second.

The 73s' offense rang up 32 shots on Alvinston's net. Essex's goal total was higher than its season average. The 73s average 5.4 goals per game.

Essex additionally got points from Max Viselli, who also racked up two goals and two assists and Dalton Langlois, who also registered one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Essex included Brett Vorshuk, Matthew Hebert, and Phil Janikowski, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Adam Gaiarin, who had two, Eric Shaw, who had three, and Matthew Rosati, Kade McKibbin, Matt Zelko, Cody Leeming, Anthony Cristofaro, and Michael Vieira, who contributed one each.

The Flyers' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled seven minors and one major for 19 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 15.0 minutes per game Alvinston had been spending in the box.

Essex's Trevor Wheaton stopped 13 shots out of the 15 that he faced. The 73s incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Cam MacAlpine made 22 saves for the Flyers on 32 shots. Alvinston registered two goals on four power play opportunities. For the Flyers, Joe Stock was ejected from the game.
