Blenheim beats Wallaceburg 10-1 as Marlatt gets hat trick

The Wallaceburg Lakers could not stop the Blenheim Blades' Drew Marlatt, who tallied a hat trick in a 10-1 win.

Marlatt notched his first tally 4:14 into the first period. He then added goals at 11:53 into the first and at 12:25 into the first.

Wallaceburg fell victim to a deadly Blenheim power play, which ripped the Lakers for six goals.

The Blades forced Wallaceburg's goaltenders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, firing 47 shots and forcing 37 saves. George Hill made 10 stops and Alex Carriere made 27. Blenheim surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Blades average 4.4 goals per game. The defensemen of Blenheim were also effective in the Lakers' zone, and came away with two goals. The Blades were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 56 penalty minutes.

Blenheim also got points from Bryan Boersma, who also had two goals and one assist, Kirk McKillop, who also registered two goals and one assist, and Justin Delgado, who also tallied two goals and one assist. Kier Cumming also scored for Blenheim. More assists for Blenheim came via Dustin Maines, who had two, Nick Delyzer, who had three, Brayden Hopkins, who had four, and Hunter Burk, Dylan Hathaway, Bryce Broad, and Corbin Hagerman, who contributed one each.

Wallaceburg forced its penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. The Lakers had been averaging 24.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Klinton Kenney made 19 saves for Blenheim on 20 shots. Wallaceburg registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. The Lakers ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wade Esselment was ejected from the game.
