Essex rolls over Wallaceburg, 5-0

The Essex 73s had a three-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-0 win over the Wallaceburg Lakers.

Essex pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 34 penalty minutes.

The 73s were led by Alixe Saliba, who had one goal. Saliba scored 1:01 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex.

Essex's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on nine Wallaceburg power plays. Wallaceburg was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Essex eventually piled up 40 shots on goal.

Essex also had goals scored by Brett Vorshuk, William Stadder, Luke Gecse, and Michael Vieira, who scored one goal each. In addition, Essex received assists from Matthew Rosati, Kade McKibbin, Matt Zelko, and Tyler Boughner, who each chipped in one.

The Lakers could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Wallaceburg averages 2.4 goals per game.

Matt Badour made 23 saves for the 73s on 23 shots. Essex registered one goal on five power play opportunities. George Hill recorded 35 saves for the Lakers. Wallaceburg incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
