Dresden blows out Wheatley, 11-3Ken Houston Memorial Arena Fri, Dec 11, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Dresden Kings had a six-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to an 11-3 win over the Wheatley Omstead Sharks. Dresden got the win behind a great game by Derrick VanEvery, who had two goals and one assist. VanEvery scored the first of his two goals at 4:05 into the second period to make the score 4-1 Dresden. Kevin Ritzer assisted on the tally. VanEvery's next tally made the score 10-3 Dresden with 14:50 left in the third period. Ritzer picked up the assist. The Kings forced Omstead Sharks' goalies to work all game long, firing 47 shots and forcing 36 saves. Tyler Dillen made 10 stops and Adam Leboeuf made 26. Dresden put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wheatley to score on any of its three power plays. The Kings outdid their season average for goals scored. Dresden averages 3.9 goals per game. Dresden also got points from Dillon Liberty, who also registered two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, Ritzer, who also grabbed one goal and two assists, Derek Shaw, who also had one goal and one assist, Will Tetzlaff, who also finished with one goal and two assists, Steven Funk, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Isaac McLean, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Dresden included John Montgomery and Carter Smith, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dresden received assists from Brock Daugherty, who had three and Ben Nicholls and Kyle Dawson, who each chipped in one. The Omstead Sharks' offense rang up 31 shots on the Kings' net. Wheatley was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 24 penalty minutes. The Omstead Sharks were led by Eric Prudence, who had one goal. Prudence scored 19:14 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Dresden. Wheatley also had goals scored by Delaney MacDonald and Brett Bowman, who each put in one. More assists for Wheatley came via Kristian Brockelbank, Nick Tavolieri-Essex, and Cole Butler, who contributed one each. Dresden's Travis Moore stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Kings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
