Wheatley wins tough contest against Mooretown, 6-4Mooretown Rink 1 Wed, Dec 02, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Wheatley Omstead Sharks escaped with a 6-4 victory over the Mooretown Flags. No lead was more than two goals during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Brett Bowman at 18:52 of the third period. Wheatley got the win behind a great game by Mitchell Prudence, who had two goals and one assist. Prudence scored the first of his two goals at 11:04 into the third period to make the score 4-4. Justin Pinsonneault assisted on the tally. Prudence's next tally made the score 6-4 Wheatley with four seconds left in the third period. Adam Leboeuf picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:34 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Omstead Sharks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up eight minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. Wheatley surpassed its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game. The Omstead Sharks put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Mooretown to score on any of its five power plays. The Flags were unable to stop Wheatley from sending pucks towards the net, and the Omstead Sharks eventually piled up 36 shots on goal. Wheatley bested its season scoring average. The Omstead Sharks average 3.7 goals per game. Wheatley additionally got points from Bowman, who also racked up one goal and two assists and Cole Butler, who also registered one goal and one assist. Wheatley also had goals scored by Frankie Ciacelli and Nick Tavolieri-Essex, who each put in one. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Mitch Lantin, who had one and Delaney MacDonald, who had two. Mooretown's penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 17.0 minutes per game the Flags had been spending in the box. Mooretown forced Wheatley's netminders to work in net, ripping 35 shots and forcing 31 saves. Leboeuf made 12 stops and Eric Morneau made 19. The Flags were helped by Alec Segers, who finished with one goal. Segers scored 4:46 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Nolan Riley provided the assist. Mooretown also got points from Parker Gilhuly, who also grabbed one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Mooretown included Ryan Lyle and Brent Blais, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Mooretown were Christian Lyle, Joe DeSena, and Jakob Reeves, who contributed one each. The Omstead Sharks registered two goals on six power play opportunities. For Wheatley, Lucas Raffoul and Matt Taylor were ejected from the contest. Mooretown's Brandon Johnson stopped 30 shots out of the 35 that he faced. Team's Dawson Vautour and Ben Morrison were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
