Essex beats Dresden 7-4 as Vorshuk gets hat trick

Brett Vorshuk lifted the Essex 73s to a 7-4 victory with a hat trick against the Dresden Kings.

Vorshuk got on the scoresheet 16:16 into the first period. He then added goals at 6:54 into the third and at 13:56 into the third.

Dresden's six penalties came back to haunt it, as the Kings let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Essex kept Dresden's goalie busy throughout the game, and Travis Moore made 50 saves on 57 shots.

Essex additionally got points from Tyler Scott, who also grabbed one goal and two assists and Matthew Hebert, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Others who scored for Essex included Tyler Turner and Luke Gecse, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Matthew Rosati, Adam Gaiarin, Kade McKibbin, and Phil Janikowski, who contributed one each and Dan Mainella and Michael Vieira, who each chipped in two.

The Kings took advantage of the 73s' penalties, tallying three goals off of five power play opportunities.

Dresden was led by Derek Shaw, who racked up one goal and two assists. Shaw scored 1:51 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Essex. Kevin Ritzer picked up the assist. Dresden also got points from Derrick VanEvery, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Steven Funk, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Dresden also got a goal from Isaac McLean as well. In addition, Dresden received assists from Carter Smith and Kyle Dawson, who contributed one each.

Matt Badour made 11 saves before being replaced by Gianfranco Donato, who took the win and made six saves. Essex incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Kings incurred 32 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Dresden, John Montgomery was ejected from the game.
