Wheatley downs Essex in overtime, 4-3 (OT)

The Wheatley Omstead Sharks' Brett Bowman scored 5:26 into overtime to beat the Essex 73s, 4-3 (OT).

Although Wheatley was up by as many as two goals in the third period, Essex kept the game interesting by staging a comeback that ultimately fell short. The 73s got to within 3-2 on a goal by Dallas Pereira at 2:54 in the third period.

The Omstead Sharks were led by Bowman, who registered one goal.

Wheatley also got points from Brian Johnson, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Wheatley included Kristian Brockelbank and Nick Tavolieri-Essex, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Andreas Gossmann, who had two and Evan Mastronardi and Mitch Lantin, who each chipped in one.

Essex kept Wheatley's goalie busy throughout the game, and Eric Morneau made 36 saves on 39 shots. The 73s' normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. Essex gives up 1.7 goal per game.

Essex also had goals scored by Adam Gaiarin and Luke Gecse, who each put in one. In addition, Essex received assists from Brett Vorshuk, William Stadder, Matt Zelko, and Michael Vieira, who contributed one each.

The Omstead Sharks incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Matt Klink took the loss and made 10 saves before being replaced by Trevor Wheaton who made nine saves. The 73s incurred 38 minutes in penalty time with four minors.
