Wheatley hangs on, beats Mooretown 3-2

Brett Bowman gave the Wheatley Omstead Sharks the lead in the first period, and the Mooretown Flags was never able to catch up in a close game that ended 3-2.

A goal 13:20 into the first period by Bowman proved to be the game winner, and powered Wheatley to the victory. Brian Johnson picked up the assist.

The Omstead Sharks were led by Bowman, who registered one goal.

Wheatley forced Mooretown goalie Brandon Johnson to work between the pipes, taking 44 shots.

Wheatley also had goals scored by Calyn Kir and Andreas Gossmann, who scored one goal each. In addition, Wheatley received assists from Kristian Brockelbank, who had one.

The Flags managed to stay out of the box for the most part, racking up one minor for 22 minutes in penalty time. Even so, Mooretown surpassed its low season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Flags' offense rang up 37 shots on the Omstead Sharks' net.

Mooretown was helped by Cameron Rannie, who racked up one goal. Rannie scored 7:48 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Mooretown. Ryan Lyle also scored for Mooretown. More assists for Mooretown came via Joe DeSena and Trevor Bogaert, who each chipped in one.

Adam Leboeuf rejected 35 shots on goal for Wheatley. The Omstead Sharks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Brandon Johnson made 41 saves for the Flags on 44 shots. Mooretown registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. The Flags ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alec Segers was ejected from the game.
