Essex rips Amherstburg, 9-1

The Essex 73s were firing on all cylinders against the Amherstburg Integrity Admirals, and when the final buzzer sounded 73s emerged with a 9-1 win.

Tyler Boughner had two goals and one assist to lead Essex. Boughner scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:05 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Essex. The 73s had gained a power play chance when Curtis Prymack was whistled for tripping. Phil Janikowski assisted on the tally. Boughner's next tally on the power play made the score 5-1 Essex with 18:13 left in the second period. Adam Gaiarin picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 13:14 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Essex forced Amherstburg's goaltenders to work without much rest, getting 35 shots and forcing 26 saves. Connor Meyerink made 13 stops and Daniel Tonietto made 13. The 73s bested their season scoring average. This season, Essex averages 5.2 goals per contest.

Essex also got points from Gaiarin, who also had one goal and one assist and Janikowski, who also racked up two goals and one assist. Essex also had goals scored by Matthew Hebert, who had two and Brett Vorshuk and Tyler Turner, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Essex were Max Viselli, who had two and Kade McKibbin, Nick Latreille, William Stadder, Anthony Cristofaro, Eric Shaw, Tyler Scott, Dallas Pereira, and Michael Vieira, who contributed one each.

The Integrity Admirals were often in penalty trouble, totaling seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. Amherstburg surpassed its season average of 16.0 penalty minutes per game. The Integrity Admirals were held below their usual level of production. Amherstburg puts an average of 4.5 pucks into the net per game.

Mitchell Holden also scored for Amherstburg. In addition, Amherstburg received assists from Ryan Alexander, who had one.

The 73s' Trevor Wheaton stopped 16 shots out of the 17 that he faced. Essex totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The 73s ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Pereira was ejected from the game. The Integrity Admirals registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Amherstburg, Dean Patterson was ejected from the game.
