Marlatt lifts Blenheim over Alvinston, 5-2Brooke Alvinston Inwood CC Fri, Oct 23, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Blenheim Blades relied on the scoring touch of Drew Marlatt, who netted two goals, to beat the Alvinston Flyers, 5-2. Marlatt found the back of the net 12:48 into the first period to make the score 1-1 and again while 15:38 into the second to make the score 2-1 Blenheim.Blenheim put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Alvinston to score on any of its five power plays. Blenheim also had goals scored by Matt Clark, Dylan Hathaway, and Phillip Clarke, who each put in one. More assists for Blenheim came via Bryan Boersma, who had two and Owen Bateman, Kirk McKillop, Justin Delgado, Nolan VandenBoorn, Kellen Kaniecki, Dustin Maines, Bryce Broad, and Corbin Hagerman, who each chipped in one. The Flyers forced the Blades goalie Eric Stewardson to work between the pipes, taking 39 shots. Alvinston was led by Frankie White, who had one goal. White scored 6:23 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Alvinston. Kirklin Dorman assisted on the tally. Matt Gough also scored for Alvinston. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Clint Rose, Devon Brown, and Kole Keating, who contributed one each. Stewardson rejected 37 shots on goal for Blenheim. The Blades incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Flyers' starting goalie, Cam MacAlpine, made 19 saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Matt Boere, who stopped two shots. Alvinston incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
