Wheatley squeaks by Wallaceburg, 4-2Wallaceburg Memorial Arena Wed, Oct 14, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Wheatley Omstead Sharks and the Wallaceburg Lakers was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Wheatley emerged with a 4-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Matt Taylor secured the win for the Omstead Sharks with a goal in the third period. Wheatley was led by Taylor, who had one goal. Taylor scored 2:09 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Wheatley. Cole Butler provided the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:11 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with five game misconducts. The Omstead Sharks' offense rang up 40 shots on Wallaceburg's net. Wheatley additionally got points from Eric Prudence, who also grabbed one goal and one assist and Mitchell Prudence, who also registered one goal and one assist. Brady Hillock also scored for Wheatley. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Delaney MacDonald, Lucas Raffoul, and Calyn Kir, who contributed one each. The Lakers put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wheatley to score on any of its eight power plays. Wallaceburg could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 28 minutes in penalties during the game. The Lakers were led by Brendan Ritchie, who finished with one goal and one assist. Ritchie scored short handed 3:51 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. A tripping call on Wade Esselment put Wallaceburg on the penalty kill. Wallaceburg also got a goal from Cory Lucier as well. In addition, Wallaceburg received assists from Dylan Ryan, who had one. Eric Morneau rejected 25 shots on goal for the Omstead Sharks. Wheatley ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. For the Omstead Sharks, Kristian Filipovski and Raffoul were ejected from the contest. Derion Ducedre made 36 saves for the Lakers on 40 shots. Wallaceburg registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Team's Esselment and Mike Brown were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
