Berg's goals lift Alvinston to 5-1 victory over Wallaceburg

The Alvinston Flyers relied on the scoring touch of Karsten Berg, who netted two goals, to beat the Wallaceburg Lakers, 5-1.

Berg scored at 21 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-1 and again while on the power play 7:18 into the second to make the score 2-1 Alvinston.

Alvinston was led by goalie Cam MacAlpine, who finished with 34 saves while allowing one goal. MacAlpine certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 3.77 entering the contest.

The Flyers forced Lakers' goaltenders to work all game long, totaling 42 shots and forcing 37 saves. Derion Ducedre made 33 stops and Alex Carriere made four. Alvinston stifled Wallaceburg's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man.

Alvinston also got points from MacAlpine, who also registered one goal and one assist. Alvinston also had goals scored by Devon Brown and Kole Keating, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Alvinston were Jeremy VanDeven, who had four and Clint Rose and Joe Stock, who contributed one each.

The Flyers were unable to stop the Lakers from sending pucks towards the net, and Wallaceburg eventually piled up 35 shots on goal.

The Lakers were led by Brendan Ritchie, who scored the team's only goal. Ritchie scored 15:03 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Wallaceburg. Derrek Finlay provided the assist.

Alvinston incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Wallaceburg incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
