Kole Keating lifted the Alvinston Flyers to a 7-2 victory with a hat trick against the Wheatley Omstead Sharks. Keating got on the scoresheet 3:12 into the first period. He then added goals at 10:02 into the first and at 5:08 into the third.Alvinston forced Wheatley's netminders to work between the pipes, racking up 44 shots and forcing 37 saves. Eric Morneau made 31 stops and Adam Leboeuf made six. The Flyers' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on five Wheatley power plays. Alvinston's goal total was higher than its season average. The Flyers average 2.5 goals per game. Alvinston additionally got points from Hunter Bryce, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jeremy VanDeven, who also registered one goal and one assist, Kirklin Dorman, who also had one goal and one assist, and Matt Gough, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Alvinston received assists from Karsten Berg, who had three, Fraser Wilson, Zach VanEyk, and Jordan Hayes, who contributed one each, and Clint Rose and Brady Swan, who each chipped in two. The Omstead Sharks managed to stay out of the box better than usual, racking up one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Wheatley ended up below its season average of 17.0 penalty minutes per game. The Omstead Sharks were helped by Brett Bowman, who registered one goal. Bowman scored 17:07 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Alvinston. Mitchell Prudence provided the assist. Wheatley also got a goal from Brady Hillock as well. Other players who recorded assists for Wheatley were Delaney MacDonald, Jack Leafeve, and Cole Butler, who contributed one each. Matt Boere made 28 saves for Alvinston on 30 shots. The Flyers totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. Alvinston ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Keating was ejected from the game. |
