Essex beats Lakeshore 5-0 as Wheaton gains shutout

Essex Centre Sports Complex    Tue, Sep 08, 2015

The Essex 73s used a sparkling performance by Trevor Wheaton to take down the Lakeshore Canadiens, as the netminder did not allow a goal in Essex's 5-0 shutout victory.

Tyler Scott had one goal and two assists to lead the 73s. Scott scored on the power play 2:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Essex. Essex had taken the advantage when Lakeshore's Guy Lavesque got sent off for too many men. Matthew Hebert picked up the assist.

The 73s put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canadiens to score on any of their three power plays. Essex's offense rang up 38 shots on Lakeshore's net.

Essex also got points from Hebert, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Tyler Turner, who also grabbed two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Max Viselli also scored for Essex. In addition, Essex received assists from Adam Gaiarin, Matt Zelko, Mark MacPherson, and Dan Mainella, who contributed one each.

Wheaton recorded 29 saves for the 73s. Essex incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Canadiens' Branden Shuck stopped 33 shots out of the 38 that he faced. Lakeshore incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
