Simcoe's comeback falls short, Hagersville wins 6-4

The Hagersville Hawks came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Simcoe Storm, but did just enough to escape with a 6-4 victory.

Hagersville led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hawks' Mitch Green scored at 7:27 in the second period to put Hagersville up 4-0.

The Hawks were sparked by Clayton Millard, who had one goal. Millard scored 9:32 into the third period to make the score 5-4 Hagersville. Green provided the assist.

Simcoe was unable to stop Hagersville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Hawks eventually piled up 37 shots on goal.

Hagersville also got points from Green, who also registered one goal and one assist, Domenic Evangelista, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Derek Friesen, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hagersville also had goals scored by Jordy Land and MIchael Arch, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Max Gunter, who had two and Travis Bell and Jake Reichheld, who each chipped in one.

The Storm forced Hagersville's goalies to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ryan Guy made 20 stops and Stephen Tierney made seven. Simcoe managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Storm ended up below its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Simcoe outdid its season average for goals scored. The Storm have scored at the pace of 1.8 goal per game during the current campaign.

Simcoe was helped by Austin Lamb, who tallied one goal. Lamb scored 6:15 into the third period to make the score 4-3 Hagersville. Tyson Mike picked up the assist. Simcoe additionally got points from Mike, who also registered one goal and one assist, Alexander Polillo, who also finished with one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Bradley Stitt, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Zak Culbert and Dakota Culbert, who contributed one each.

The Hawks incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Nathen McKinnon rejected 31 shots on goal for the Storm. Simcoe registered one goal on two power play opportunities.
