Early goals doom Glanbrook, falls to Port Dover, 8-3

The Port Dover Sailors jumped out to a four-point advantage by the end of the first period and beat the Glanbrook Rangers, 8-3.

Port Dover got the win behind a great game by Steve Goeree, who had one goal and three assists. Goeree scored 5:37 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Port Dover. Eric Mueller provided the assist.

The Sailors forced Rangers' goalies to work between the pipes, racking up 43 shots and forcing 35 saves. Zach Moore made 15 stops and Alex Horawski made 20. Port Dover put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Glanbrook to score on any of its three power plays. The Sailors surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Port Dover averages 3.5 goals per game.

Port Dover additionally got points from Mueller, who also grabbed three goals and one assist. Port Dover also got a goal from Josh Turberfield as well. More assists for Port Dover came via Bradon Dunnett and Connor Epping, who each chipped in one and Ryan Sullivan, Jordan Lenko, and Eric O`Keefe, who contributed two each.

The Rangers did not reach the goal total they have come to expect this season. Glanbrook averages 5.1 goals per game. The Rangers forced the Sailors goalie Riley Edwards to work between the pipes, taking 35 shots. Glanbrook's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Rangers finished with 44 penalty minutes.

Glanbrook was led by Connor Maitz, who finished with two goals. Maitz scored the first of his two goals at 7:14 into the second period to make the score 5-1 Port Dover. Maitz's next tally made the score 6-3 Port Dover with 18:38 left in the third period. Josh Anger picked up the assist. Noah Matteson also scored for Glanbrook. In addition, Glanbrook received assists from Michael Fortino, who had one.

Riley Edwards made 32 saves for Port Dover on 35 shots. The Sailors incurred 26 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
