Grimsby rides Currie to victory over Hagersville, 4-1

Jeremy Currie had a standout game with 26 saves, and the Grimsby Peach Kings beat the Hagersville Hawks 4-1.

Grimsby was led by Jeromy Hopkins, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Hopkins scored 8:33 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby. Curtis Conrad picked up the assist.

The Peach Kings forced Hagersville goalie Stephen Tierney to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots.

Grimsby also got points from Conrad, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Grimsby also had goals scored by Aiden McCreadie, Carson Macrae, and Addison DeTullio, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Garnet McComber, who had two and Joshua Kozielski and James Thorpe, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 57 minutes in penalty time. Hagersville surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hawks were held below their usual level of production. Hagersville puts an average of 4.2 pucks into the net per game.

The Hawks were led by Dan Mederios, who scored the team's only goal. Mederios scored 11:16 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derek Friesen provided the assist.

Grimsby totaled nine minutes in penalty time with two minors and one major and went 1-for-6 on the power play. For the Peach Kings, Thorpe was ejected from the game. Stephen Tierney made 42 saves for Hagersville on 46 shots. The Hawks registered zero goals on two power play opportunities. For Hagersville, Max Gunter and Jake Reichheld were ejected from the contest.
