Dundas shrugs off penalties, upends Niagara, 5-2

The Niagara Riverhawks failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Dundas Blues shook off a number of penalties to win, 5-2.

Dundas was led by Domenic Procopio, who had one goal and one assist. Procopio scored 4:18 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Dundas. Cam McConnell assisted on the tally.

The Blues forced Niagara goalie Scott Charanduk to work between the pipes, taking 51 shots.

Dundas additionally got points from Connor King, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Dundas also got a goal from Liam Buckley as well. In addition, Dundas received assists from Ray Thompson, who had two and Thomas Dowling, Phoenix Schueler, and Chris Cudek, who each chipped in one.

The Riverhawks' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on eight Dundas power plays.

Niagara was helped by Brandon McLean, who registered one goal. McLean scored on the power play 15:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dundas. The Riverhawks had gotten the advantage when Dundas' Procopio was sent off for charging. Dawson Ethier picked up the assist. Niagara also got points from Andrew Somerville, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Niagara came via Danny Gallagher and Patrick Norris, who contributed one each.

Colin Bilik recorded 20 saves for the Blues. Dundas incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Scott Charanduk made 46 saves for Niagara on 50 shots. The Riverhawks incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. Niagara ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Lucas Marcon was ejected from the game.
