Hagersville stifles Grimsby's comeback, gains 4-2 victory

The Hagersville Hawks came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Grimsby Peach Kings, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Hagersville led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Hawks' Cole Martin scored at 2:52 in the second period to put Hagersville up 3-0.

Bailey Fletcher had two goals and one assist to lead the Hawks. Fletcher scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 7:45 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hagersville. Hagersville had taken the advantage when Grimsby's Marcus Brydon got sent off for interference. Matt Rimac picked up the assist. Fletcher's next tally on the power play made the score 4-2 Hagersville with 1:40 left in the third period.

Hagersville additionally got points from Derek Friesen, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Max Gunter and Dan Mederios, who contributed one each.

The Peach Kings were held below their usual level of production. Grimsby puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Peach Kings' offense rang up 41 shots on the Hawks' net.

Grimsby was helped by James Thorpe, who had one goal. Thorpe scored 16:11 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Hagersville. Joshua Kozielski assisted on the tally. Grimsby also got a goal from Garnet McComber as well. More assists for Grimsby came via Trevor McEneny and Curtis Conrad, who each chipped in one.

Stephen Tierney made 39 saves for Hagersville on 41 shots. The Hawks incurred 30 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Jeremy Currie recorded 19 saves for the Peach Kings. Grimsby incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
