Dunnville beats Hagersville 5-4 after comeback scare

The Hagersville Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Dunnville Jr. Mudcats held on for a 5-4 victory.

A goal by Josh Phibbs put Dunnville up 5-3 in the third period, but Hagersville pulled to within one on Mitch Green's tally 19:59 into the third period.

Chad Springer had a great game for the Jr. Mudcats, netting two goals. Springer found the back of the net 3:32 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Dunnville and again while 13:12 into the second to make the score 4-3 Dunnville.

Dunnville also got points from Phibbs, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points and Devin Lampert, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Steven Czepek also scored for Dunnville. More assists for Dunnville came via Josh Meeuwse, who had three and Matt Dolan, Connor Schmalz, and Travis Sheldrake, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks forced Dunnville goalie Brennan Head to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots.

Hagersville was helped by Dan Mederios, who tallied one goal. Mederios scored 4:54 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Dunnville. MIchael Arch picked up the assist. Hagersville additionally got points from Max Gunter, who also had one goal and one assist and Green, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Hagersville also got a goal from Domenic Evangelista as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Cole Martin, who had two and Jordy Land, Clayton Millard, and Derek Friesen, who contributed one each.

Head recorded 32 saves for the Jr. Mudcats. Dunnville incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ryan Guy made 22 saves for the Hawks on 27 shots. Hagersville incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with three minors.
