Port Dover falls to Hagersville in overtime, 6-5 (OT)Port Dover Sun, Dec 27, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Hagersville Hawks pulled out a 6-5 (OT) overtime victory over the Port Dover Sailors on a clutch goal by Ethan Hager. Hagersville overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hawks was down 5-2 after a goal by Port Dover's Michael Almas at 5:29 in the third period. Hagersville tied things up at 5-5 on a goal by Mitch Green at 19:57 in the third period. Hager had a great game for the Hawks, netting two goals. Hager found the back of the net on the power play 18:12 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Port Dover and again while on the power play 3:08 into the fourth to make the score 6-5 Hagersville. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 14:08 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with three game misconducts. Hagersville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with seven minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The Hawks surpassed its season average of 23.0 penalty minutes per game. Hagersville excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. The Hawks' offense rang up 44 shots on the Sailors' net. Hagersville additionally got points from Green, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Cole Martin, who also registered one goal and three assists, Derek Friesen, who also had one goal and one assist, and Dan Mederios, who also grabbed one goal and three assists. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Domenic Evangelista, who had two and Bailey Fletcher and MIchael Arch, who each chipped in one. Port Dover forced Hagersville's goaltenders to work between the pipes, finishing with 74 shots and forcing 69 saves. Ryan Guy made 30 stops and Stephen Tierney made 39. The Sailors were helped by Colton McLeod, who tallied two goals. McLeod scored the first of his two goals at 2:53 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Port Dover. Bradon Dunnett picked up the assist. McLeod's next tally made the score 3-1 Port Dover with 7:55 left in the second period. Almas provided the assist. Port Dover also got points from Almas, who also registered two goals and one assist to lead the team in points and Eric Mueller, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Port Dover came via Josh Turberfield, who had two and Colin Montour, Braden Roberts, and Connor Epping, who contributed one each. The Hawks registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Hagersville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Travis Bell was ejected from the game. Rene Kloepfer rejected 38 shots on goal for Port Dover. The Sailors ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. Team's Steve Goeree and Zac Mihalis were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
