Niagara beats Simcoe 8-0 as Charanduk gains shutout

Scott Charanduk was superb between the pipes for the Niagara Riverhawks, as he did not allow a goal in an 8-0 victory over the Simcoe Storm.

Niagara got the win with help from a great game by Matt Somerville, who had one goal and two assists. Somerville scored 1:42 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Niagara. Jamie Bennett provided the assist.

The Riverhawks forced Simcoe's goalies to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, racking up 42 shots and forcing 34 saves. Tyson Taylor made 18 stops and Nathen McKinnon made 16. Niagara managed to stay out of the box better than usual, registering one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Riverhawks ended up below its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Niagara bested its season scoring average. The Riverhawks average 4.0 goals per game. Niagara's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Niagara also got points from Brandon McLean, who also racked up two goals and two assists, Alex Cipriano, who also tallied two goals and two assists to lead the team in points, and Jarrod Peacock, who also had one goal and one assist. Niagara also had goals scored by Andrew Somerville and Dawson Ethier, who each put in one. In addition, Niagara received assists from Danny Gallagher and Ryan Degiuli, who each chipped in one.

The Storm's offense rang up 33 shots on the Riverhawks' net.

Charanduk recorded 33 saves for Niagara. The Riverhawks registered one goal on four power play opportunities. Simcoe incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
