Matteson nets hat trick, leads Glanbrook to 8-2 win over Port Dover

A hat trick by Noah Matteson was the highlight in Rangers' 8-2 win against the Port Dover Sailors.

Matteson notched his first tally 4:11 into the second period. He then added goals at 6:42 into the second and at 16:19 into the third.

The Glanbrook Rangers forced Port Dover's goalies to work between the pipes, firing 60 shots and forcing 52 saves. Riley Edwards made 29 stops and Rene Kloepfer made 23. Glanbrook outdid its season average for goals scored. The Rangers have scored at the pace of 5.3 goals per game during the current campaign. Glanbrook got an offensive boost from its blueliners, who contributed two goals during the game.

Glanbrook additionally got points from Nicholas Sherwood, who also registered one goal and one assist and Connor Maitz, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Glanbrook also had goals scored by Jake Bain and Josh Pace, who each put in one. In addition, Glanbrook received assists from Michael Fortino and Jeff May, who each chipped in one, Drew Jedrzejewicz and Brad Parish, who contributed two each, and Chris Haigh and Brett Farrelly, who each chipped in three.

The Sailors managed to stay out of the box better than usual, totaling one minor for two minutes in penalty time. Port Dover ended up below its season average of 22.0 penalty minutes per game. The Sailors forced the Rangers goalie Matthew Venturelli to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots.

Port Dover was helped by Zac Mihalis, who racked up one goal. Mihalis scored on the power play 6:03 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Glanbrook. A tripping penalty on Josh Anger had put the Sailors on the power play. Riley Vanhorne provided the assist. Eric Mueller also scored for Port Dover. Other players who recorded assists for Port Dover were Michael Almas, Steve Goeree, and Eric O`Keefe, who contributed one each.

Glanbrook's Venturelli stopped 32 shots out of the 34 that he faced. The Rangers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Port Dover registered one goal on three power play opportunities.
