Dunnville beats Niagara 10-5 as Dolan gets hat trick

A hat trick by Matt Dolan was the highlight in Jr. Mudcats' 10-5 win against the Niagara Riverhawks.

Dolan got on the scoresheet 57 seconds into the second period. He then added goals at 6:30 into the second and at 13:56 into the third.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 12:12 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats forced their penalty killing units to work especially hard during the game, picking up six minors and one major for 47 minutes in penalty time. Dunnville had been averaging 25.0 minutes in penalties per game. The Jr. Mudcats forced Niagara goalie Sebastian Iannone to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots. Dunnville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. This season, the Jr. Mudcats average 3.9 goals per contest.

Dunnville additionally got points from Josh Meeuwse, who also registered one goal and one assist, Josh Phibbs, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Steven Czepek, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Connor Schmalz, who also had one goal and two assists, and Luke Rowe, who also registered one goal and one assist. Darcy Muller also scored for Dunnville. More assists for Dunnville came via Damien Lalonde, who had two, Devin Lampert, who had three, and Mitch Holodniuk, Dane Koabel, Jake MacDougall, Cody LeVasseur, Chad Springer, and Millar Leniew, who each chipped in one.

The Riverhawks were often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and one major for 61 minutes in penalty time. Niagara surpassed its season average of 25.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Riverhawks were led by Daniel Volpatti, who finished with two goals and one assist. Volpatti scored the first of his two goals at 14:21 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Dunnville. Robert Shaw provided the assist. Volpatti's next tally made the score 8-3 Dunnville with 14:48 left in the third period. A tripping penalty on Holodniuk had put Niagara on the power play. Matt Somerville picked up the assist. Niagara also got points from Shaw, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Niagara also had goals scored by Alex Cipriano and Richard Deschatelets, who each put in one. In addition, Niagara received assists from Danny Gallagher, Dylan Leifso, Jamie Bennett, and Ryan Degiuli, who contributed one each.

Jesse Schoeman made 20 saves for Dunnville on 25 shots. The Jr. Mudcats registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. For Dunnville, Sawyer Madden was ejected from the game. Iannone recorded 21 saves for the Riverhawks. Niagara registered one goal on five power play opportunities. The Riverhawks ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Shaw was ejected from the game.
