Hagersville's comeback falls short, Niagara wins 5-3Gale Centre Thu, Dec 10, 2015 Story by Narrative Science.
The Niagara Riverhawks came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Hagersville Hawks, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory. Niagara led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Riverhawks' Brandon McLean scored short handed at 12:15 in the third period to put Niagara up 6-3. Dawson Ethier had two goals to lead the Riverhawks to victory. Ethier scored on the power play at 19:08 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Niagara and again while on the power play 6:57 into the third to make the score 5-3 Niagara. Daniel Volpatti also scored for Niagara. More assists for Niagara came via Jamie Bennett, Dante Zawadzki, Robert Shaw, Josh Mallory, and Jarrod Peacock, who each chipped in one. Hagersville kept Niagara's goalie busy throughout the game, and Scott Charanduk made 31 saves on 34 shots. The Hawks were led by Mitch Green, who tallied two goals. Green scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 16:18 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Hagersville. Hagersville earned a power play opportunity when Andrew Somerville was put in the box for high sticking. Cole Martin picked up the assist. Green's next tally on the power play made the score 3-1 Hagersville with 16:46 left in the second period. Bailey Fletcher assisted on the tally. Hagersville also got a goal from Derek Friesen as well. In addition, Hagersville received assists from Dan Mederios, MIchael Arch, and Ethan Hager, who contributed one each. The Riverhawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Stephen Tierney recorded 24 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
