Dundas pulls away in second, rolls over Niagara, 8-1

The Niagara Riverhawks was within striking distance after one period, but the Dundas Blues put the pedal down in the second en route to an 8-1 victory.

Dundas' Andrew Albano was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 27 saves and let only one puck past him. The solid play of Albano will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.51.

Niagara's power play was ineffective against the Blues' penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

Dundas stifled the Riverhawks' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Blues' offense rang up 33 shots on Niagara's net. Dundas found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. The Blues average 4.3 goals per game.

Dundas was helped by Phoenix Schueler, who finished with one goal and one assist. Schueler scored 12:42 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Dundas. Clay Donnelly picked up the assist. Dundas additionally got points from Max Giannone, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Ray Thompson, who also had one goal and one assist, Donnelly, who also registered one goal and two assists, Connor King, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Domenic Procopio, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Dundas also had goals scored by Mitch Moriarity and Thomas Dowling, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dundas received assists from Bryce Robertson, who had two and Justin Homer, Liam Buckley, Chris Cudek, and Cam McConnell, who contributed one each.

The Riverhawks could not produce up to their normal offensive output. Niagara puts an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. The Riverhawks were forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as they racked up 36 penalty minutes.

Niagara was led by Robert Shaw, who scored the team's only goal. Shaw scored 17:07 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Dundas. Josh Mallory provided the assist.

The Blues totaled 25 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. For Dundas, Giannone was ejected from the game. The Riverhawks' Sebastian Iannone stopped 25 shots out of the 33 that he faced.
