Hagersville beats Simcoe 8-3 as Green gets hat trick

A hat trick by Mitch Green was the highlight in Hawks' 8-3 win against the Simcoe Storm.

Green got on the scoresheet 7:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 14:00 into the first and at 7:07 into the second.

Simcoe trailed by one after the first period, but the Hagersville Hawks went into the second intermission with a 7-2 lead and never looked back.

Hagersville forced the Storm's netminders to work all game long, taking 37 shots and forcing 29 saves. Tyson Taylor made 24 stops and Nathen McKinnon made five. The Hawks' goal total was higher than their season average. This season, Hagersville averages 4.4 goals per contest. The Hawks could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 25 minutes in penalties during the game.

Hagersville additionally got points from Cole Dezainne, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jordy Land, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Hagersville also had goals scored by Bailey Fletcher, Jake Reichheld, and MIchael Arch, who scored one goal each. More assists for Hagersville came via Ethan Hager, who had two, Cole Martin, who had four, and Travis Bell, Shaun General, Derek Friesen, and Dan Mederios, who each chipped in one.

Hagersville was unable to stop Simcoe from sending pucks towards the net, and the Storm eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.

Simcoe was helped by Bradley Stitt, who had one goal. Stitt scored on the power play 9:03 into the first period to make the score 1-1. A cross checking penalty on Sebastian Welc had put the Storm on the power play. Kevin Cameron picked up the assist. Others who scored for Simcoe included Austin Lavigne and Darren Lynch, who each put in one. In addition, Simcoe received assists from Tyson Mike and Dakota Culbert, who contributed one each.

Ryan Guy recorded 31 saves for the Hawks. Hagersville registered one goal on two power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Scott Stirling was ejected from the game. Simcoe totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. The Storm ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Cameron Tonner was ejected from the game.
