Grimsby hangs on, beats Hagersville 2-1

The Grimsby Peach Kings beat the Hagersville Hawks, 2-1, in a contest where the winning goal was scored in the first period but the game remained close throughout.

Garnet McComber provided Grimsby with the game-winning tally when he scored 12:53 into the first period. Matthew Jambrosich assisted on the tally.

Hagersville was stymied by the Peach Kings' netminder Jeremy Currie, who stopped 32 shots during the victory. Currie managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.59 prior to the game.

Grimsby was led by Brennan Smith, who registered one goal and one assist. Smith scored 14:43 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Grimsby. Jambrosich picked up the assist.

The Peach Kings were held below their usual level of production. Grimsby puts an average of 4.3 pucks into the net per game. The Hawks were unable to stop the Peach Kings from sending pucks towards the net, and Grimsby eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Hagersville was led by Cole Martin, who scored the team's only goal. Martin scored 16:50 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Grimsby. Mitch Green provided the assist.

Grimsby incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with two minors. Stephen Tierney rejected 30 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hagersville incurred 28 minutes in penalty time with four minors and had no power play opportunities.
