Hagersville survives Port Dover comeback, wins 4-3

The Port Dover Sailors tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hagersville Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

A goal by Dan Mederios put Hagersville up 4-1 in the second period, but Port Dover pulled to within one on Eric Mueller's tally 12:05 into the third period.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:53 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Hawks' penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled eight minors and two majors for 36 minutes in penalty time. Hagersville surpassed its season average of 20.0 penalty minutes per game. The Hawks kept the Sailors' goalie busy throughout the game, and Mike Caluori made 27 saves on 31 shots.

Hagersville also got a goal from Bailey Fletcher as well. More assists for Hagersville came via Travis Bell, Cole Dezainne, Jordy Land, and Mitch Green, who contributed one each and Derek Friesen and MIchael Arch, who each chipped in two.

Port Dover was often in penalty trouble, totaling eight minors and two majors for 26 minutes in penalty time. The Sailors had been averaging 21.0 minutes in penalties per game.

Braden Roberts also scored for Port Dover. In addition, Port Dover received assists from Riley Vanhorne, Michael Almas, Steve Goeree, and Eric O`Keefe, who contributed one each.

Hagersville's Stephen Tierney stopped 26 shots out of the 29 that he faced. The Hawks registered two goals on six power play opportunities. Team's Sebastian Welc and Justin Fletcher were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. Port Dover registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For the Sailors, Jordan Lenko and Colton McLeod were ejected from the contest.
