Niagara falls to Grimsby in overtime, 5-4 (OT)

The Grimsby Peach Kings' Nicholas Purves scored 18 seconds into overtime to beat the Niagara Riverhawks, 5-4 (OT).

Grimsby overcame a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Peach Kings fell behind 4-1 after a goal by Niagara's Dawson Ethier at 8:10 in the second period. Grimsby tied things up at 4-4 on a goal by Curtis Conrad at 11:09 in the third period.

The Peach Kings' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Niagara power plays. Grimsby forced the Riverhawks goalie Sebastian Iannone to work between the pipes, taking 46 shots. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with three goals.

Grimsby additionally got points from Conrad, who also had one goal and one assist. Grimsby also got a goal from Brennan Smith as well. In addition, Grimsby received assists from Brady Cranwell, who had two and Joshua Celebre, Jeromy Hopkins, Joshua Kozielski, Garnet McComber, Matthew Jambrosich, and James Thorpe, who each chipped in one.

Niagara excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Riverhawks' offense rang up 36 shots on the Peach Kings' net.

Niagara was helped by Brandon McLean, who tallied two goals. McLean scored the first of his two goals at 1:42 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Niagara. Alex Cipriano picked up the assist. McLean's next tally made the score 2-0 Niagara with 15:54 left in the first period. A cross checking call on Danny Ledwez put the Riverhawks on the penalty kill. Niagara also got points from Ethier, who also registered one goal and one assist and Cipriano, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. More assists for Niagara came via Shawn Epp, Patrick Norris, Matt Somerville, and Ryan Degiuli, who contributed one each.

Jeremy Currie made 32 saves for Grimsby on 36 shots. The Peach Kings incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with four minors. Iannone recorded 41 saves for Niagara. The Riverhawks incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
