Grimsby beats Dundas 5-0 as Currie gains shutout

Market Street Arena    Thu, Oct 22, 2015

Jeremy Currie recorded a shutout against the Dundas Blues as the Grimsby Peach Kings picked up a 5-0 win.

Grimsby got the win on the strength of a great game by Joshua Kozielski, who had two goals and one assist. Kozielski scored the first of his two goals at 5:15 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Grimsby. Curtis Conrad assisted on the tally. Kozielski's next tally made the score 5-0 Grimsby with 7:18 left in the second period. A high sticking call on Addison DeTullio put the Peach Kings on the penalty kill. James Thorpe picked up the assist.

Grimsby pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 34 penalty minutes.

The Peach Kings forced Dundas' goaltenders to work in net, launching 36 shots and forcing 31 saves. Colin Bilik made 16 stops and Andrew Albano made 15. Grimsby stifled the Blues' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Peach Kings' defensive play was more effective than usual against Dundas. Grimsby averages 2.8 goals allowed per game.

Others who scored for Grimsby included Kyle Kozielski, Daniel Scotland, and Brady Cranwell, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Grimsby were Trevor McEneny, Aiden McCreadie, Jeromy Hopkins, and Brennan Smith, who contributed one each.

The Blues put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Peach Kings to score on any of their three power plays. Dundas could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The Blues average 3.8 goals per game. Grimsby was unable to stop Dundas from sending pucks towards the net, and the Blues eventually piled up 34 shots on goal.
