Niagara survives Simcoe comeback, wins 6-4

The Simcoe Storm tried their best to erase a four-goal deficit, but the Niagara Riverhawks would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 6-4.

A goal by Patrick Norris put Niagara up 6-2 in the third period, but Simcoe pulled to within two on Alexander Polillo's tally 19:50 into the third period.

The Riverhawks forced the Storm goalie Nathen McKinnon to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots. Niagara could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Riverhawks were led by Dawson Ethier, who had two goals and one assist. Ethier scored the first of his two goals at 58 seconds into the third period to make the score 4-2 Niagara. Andrew Somerville provided the assist. Ethier's next tally made the score 5-2 Niagara with 16:39 left in the third period. Niagara was on a disadvantage when Danny Ledwez went off the ice for head contact. Niagara additionally got points from Alex Cipriano, who also registered one goal and one assist and Richard Deschatelets, who also racked up one goal and one assist. In addition, Niagara received assists from Danny Gallagher, who had two and Lucas Marcon, Matt Somerville, and Dante Zawadzki, who each chipped in one.

Simcoe also got points from Dakota Culbert, who also tallied one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Austin Lams also scored for Simcoe. Other players who recorded assists for Simcoe were Mike Tyson, who had two and Kent Wardell, Jarrrett McCarthy, Austin Lavigne, and Ben Woods, who contributed one each.

The Riverhawks' Scott Charanduk stopped 16 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Niagara registered two goals on four power play opportunities. Nathen McKinnon made 32 saves for Simcoe on 38 shots. The Storm incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
