Glanbrook beats Hagersville 5-3 after comeback scare

The Hagersville Hawks tried to dig themselves out of a four-goal hole, but the Glanbrook Rangers held on for a 5-3 victory.

Glanbrook made the score 5-1 on a goal by Ryan Laufman at 17:01 in the second period, and Hagersville got as close as 5-3 when Dan Mederios scored 5:27 into the third period.

Connor Maitz was all over the ice for the Rangers, as he grabbed two goals in the win. Maitz found the back of the net on the power play 9:25 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Glanbrook and again while on the power play 1:19 into the second to make the score 4-1 Glanbrook.

Glanbrook kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Stephen Tierney made 41 saves on 46 shots. The Rangers' defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals. Glanbrook found itself short handed often, totaling 26 penalty minutes and allowing 10 power plays.

Glanbrook additionally got points from Michael Fortino, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Justin Whitwell, who also racked up one goal and one assist, and Laufman, who also registered one goal and one assist. More assists for Glanbrook came via Brandon Kolaski, who had two and Chris Haigh, Nicholas Sherwood, and Nathan Fiorino, who each chipped in one.

Hagersville was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

Others who scored for Hagersville included Cole Dezainne and Mitch Green, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Hagersville were Cole Martin, who had one and Max Gunter and Derek Friesen, who each chipped in two.

The Rangers' Matthew Venturelli stopped 17 shots out of the 20 that he faced. Glanbrook registered four goals on eight power play opportunities. For the Hawks, Justin Fletcher and Bailey Fletcher were ejected from the contest.
