Port Dover outlasts Dundas, 6-4

The Port Dover Sailors gutted out a close 6-4 win against the Dundas Blues.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Eric Mueller secured the win for Port Dover with a goal in the third period.

The Sailors pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Port Dover excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in seven chances. The Sailors outdid their season average for goals scored. Port Dover averages 3.4 goals per game.

The Sailors were led by Kyle Dedecker, who grabbed two goals. Dedecker scored the first of his two goals at 16:19 into the second period to make the score 4-3 Dundas. Braden Roberts assisted on the tally. Dedecker's next tally made the score 6-4 Port Dover with 5:13 left in the third period. Colton McLeod picked up the assist. Port Dover also got points from Eric O`Keefe, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Josh Turberfield, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Michael Almas also scored for Port Dover. More assists for Port Dover came via Jordan Lenko and Colin Montour, who each chipped in one.

Dundas put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Port Dover to score on any of its seven power plays. The Sailors were unable to stop the Blues from sending pucks towards the net, and Dundas eventually piled up 51 shots on goal.

The Blues were led by Liam Buckley, who registered two goals. Buckley scored the first of his two goals at 6:51 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Jamison Buck provided the assist. Buckley's next tally made the score 3-2 Dundas with 8:10 left in the second period. Chris Cudek assisted on the tally. Dundas also had goals scored by Justin Homer and Clay Donnelly, who scored one goal each. In addition, Dundas received assists from Ray Thompson, who had two and Jaden Simoneau, Dan Pelosini, Max Giannone, and Domenic Procopio, who contributed one each.

Rene Kloepfer rejected 47 shots on goal for Port Dover. Jeff Maxwell recorded 22 saves for Dundas. The Blues incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
