Niagara survives Dunnville comeback, wins 4-2

The Dunnville Jr. Mudcats almost clawed their way back from a four-goal deficit, but the Niagara Riverhawks managed to pull out a 4-2 win in the end.

Niagara led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Riverhawks' Robert Shaw scored at 5:53 in the second period to put Niagara up 4-0.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 10:15 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Riverhawks were helped by Dante Zawadzki, who registered one goal. Zawadzki scored 19:59 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Niagara. Shaw provided the assist. Niagara also got points from Shaw, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Niagara also had goals scored by Danny Gallagher and Brandon McLean, who each put in one. More assists for Niagara came via Alex Cipriano and Derek Folkard, who each chipped in one.

Dunnville's offense operated below its season average. The Jr. Mudcats put an average of 4.1 pucks into the net per game. Niagara was unable to stop Dunnville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Jr. Mudcats eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Dunnville was helped by Steven Czepek, who racked up one goal. Czepek scored 17:59 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Niagara. Darcy Muller picked up the assist. Dunnville additionally got points from Muller, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Dunnville were Jordan Gillis and Luke Rowe, who contributed one each.

The Riverhawks' Scott Charanduk stopped 30 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Niagara totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-1 on the power play. For the Riverhawks, Jamie Bennett was ejected from the game. Brennan Head made 24 saves for the Jr. Mudcats on 28 shots. Dunnville totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. The Jr. Mudcats ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Gillis was ejected from the game.
