Metro uses big second period to beat Wooster, 10-1

Wooster was within striking distance after one period, but Metro put the pedal down in the second en route to a 10-1 victory.

Kevin Shand was all over the ice for Metro, as he tallied two goals and one assist in the win. Shand scored the first of his two goals at 30 seconds into the second period to make the score 2-0 Metro. David Chavis picked up the assist. Shand's next tally made the score 5-1 Metro with 1:39 left in the second period. Metro had gotten the advantage when Wooster's Mike Ragone was sent off for roughing. Matt Dempsey assisted on the tally.

Metro was often in penalty trouble, totaling nine minors and one major for 43 minutes in penalty time. Metro had been averaging 20.0 minutes in penalties per game. Metro forced Wooster's goalies to work in net, launching 47 shots and forcing 37 saves. Joe Morgan made 33 stops and Ben Luitgaarden made four. Metro put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Wooster to score on any of its five power plays. Metro found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Metro has scored at the pace of 5.2 goals per game during the current campaign.

Metro additionally got points from Stefan Boskovic, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Michael Tratar, who also had one goal and one assist, Jacob Drinkard, who also racked up one goal and two assists, Dempsey, who also registered two goals and three assists to lead the team in points, and Graham Day, who also grabbed two goals and two assists. Chase Sereno also scored for Metro. More assists for Metro came via Cam Schwartz, Jason Newel, Chas Distelrath, and Jason Recchia, who each chipped in one and Mathias Tellstrom and Robert Flannery, who contributed two each.

Wooster racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with nine minors and one major for 33 minutes in penalty time. Wooster surpassed its season average of 29.0 penalty minutes per game. Wooster was held below its usual level of production. Wooster puts an average of 3.1 pucks into the net per game. Metro's defense shut down Wooster's forwards for much of the game, and Wooster got off only 11 shots during the contest.

Wooster also got a goal from Christian Miller as well. In addition, Wooster received assists from Daniel Nugent, who had one.

Kameron Limburg rejected 10 shots on goal for Metro. Metro registered one goal on five power play opportunities.
